This child was only six years old when he came to our Outreach Service, shortly after having been taken into the care of the Local Authority.
He had no boundaries and didn’t know how to behave with other children or adults, which often caused major behavioural issues; he could be very demanding and insisted on setting his own rules.
We worked closely with his foster carer to begin teaching him to read, write and build positive relationships with adults and children. He learned how to negotiate and that following rules could be beneficial. The loveliest thing was seeing how much he loved to read once he received the teaching and support he needed.
Working with a fantastic and supportive local mainstream school, we were able to support him into a full time integration at the school in his relevant year group.
