Outreach Service Testimonials Student N
N was a primary school aged student who came to our Outreach service when he was out of mainstream school, due to experiencing behavioural issues and social problems. He had been out of school for most of his statutory education, having visited a local school daily to work with an LSA once per week, supported by his grandparents. Just before coming to work with Outreach he was taken into the Care system.
N was placed with one of our experienced mentors. Our mentor visited him within his home for three sessions per week where he followed a bespoke program of study to suit his educational and therapeutic needs. N was able to build a very positive relationship with his mentor and thoroughly enjoyed her visits, particularly enjoying learning through play, he was able to gradually progress to produce some very creative and imaginative work. N also followed a tailor-made therapeutic plan which focussed on relationship building and his sensory needs and was able to widen his outlook on the outside world he lives in. He made huge progress during this time in reading and writing, supported by our mentor and his carer. He had previously had no literacy or numeracy skills.
After a period of time N was supported in the mainstream classroom of the local primary school by our Outreach mentor, who was able to work with his Teaching Assistant and class teacher in the classroom to ensure that he was able to build new relationships with the teachers and his peers. After a successful transition period N was ready to attend mainstream full time and we were soon able to withdraw our staff so that he was totally independent at school.
