Aims
 |
Our aim is to provide a comprehensive education for children who have struggled in an institutional environment and for whom access to the curriculum has become insurmountable in other venues. The students will be taught in a converted 4 bedroomed house in a small, picturesque village where distractions are kept to a minimum and where a calm, homely environment can reduce their anxiety levels, helping them to gain confidence in themselves as learners.
|
Social skills
Many of the children and young people are diagnosed with conditions which have an adverse effect upon their social skills and their ability to mix with adults and peers. They require a therapeutic environment in which to develop the necessary social and self help skills to enable them to become positive members of their families, local communities and the wider world.
These skills are taught directly at Teaseldown School by a range of qualified and experienced staff who have strong problem-solving skills and empathy for the young people and their families.
|
Age group
| |
We cater for all students in Year Groups 7 - 11 at Teaseldown School. Our outreach service will consider working with young people of any age, either to return them to school, to place them at Teaseldown School or to help them during transition stages or into work or college environments.
|
Families
Our ethos at Teaseldown School requires full involvement of families in the development of a holistic programme which enables children and young people to practice the skills learnt at Teaseldown School in safe environments at home where the programme is understood and supported. We carry out monthly home visits to discuss progress, problems and future planning and arrangements and to build relationships with the families.
We may be in daily contact with families during the school day where incidences arise or to report concerns or anxieties, either of staff in relation to the young person or of the student themselves.
We carry out a formal review of Individual Education Plans at the beginning of every term and these are sent for consideration and comment to the parents / carers and are discussed at home visits.
Termly reports on academic and therapeutic progress are sent home and parents / carers and young people are asked to respond to these as they see fit.
All students have Statements of SEN and as such Teaseldown School will comply with the regulation to hold an Annual Review Meeting.
|
Staffing
 |
Students are largely taught on a one-to-one basis with an extremely individualised programme.
Staff are qualified in a range of educational and therapeutic disciplines and work together as a team to address the issues presenting the young people and their families.
All staff are supervised on a half-termly basis and students are discussed at least once a month in extended team meetings.
Our Complaints Procedure is available on request.
|
Multi-agency approach
 |
At Teaseldown School and Outreach Service we facilitate and encourage multi-agency teams to consider, plan and evaluate input for all students placed with us. We work with students to communicate effectively with their consultants and other professionals involved in helping solve the problems they face.
|
Referrals and timetabling
| |
Referrals can be made by any agency requiring a placement or outreach work with a young person in need.
Referrals can be discussed by telephone with either Director; made via email using the 'contact us' button on the website or in writing to Teaseldown, Mill Road, Ridgewell, Halstead, Essex, CO9 4SG.
Students accepted to the school start with five half days which will be divided between outreach and school attendance for the initial induction and assessment period of 4 weeks. It is our intention that all students should be participating in a full time timetable by the end of their fourth week at Teaseldown School. This is subject to negotiation with student, parent / carer, the referring agency and other professionals and we reserve the right to adopt a slower full integration programme if the needs of the student dictate that this is more appropriate.
